• Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains numerous comforts aside from the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
